The Guest of Honour will present its literature and culture with the motto “Czechia: A Country on the Coast”

In October, Czechia will be Guest of Honour at Frankfurter Buchmesse (7-11 October 2026). Book fair visitors can look forward to a varied programme, featuring more than 100 literary and cultural events at the fair and in and around the city of Frankfurt. 75 Czech authors will travel to Frankfurt in October. Today, the selected authors who will be presenting their works in Frankfurt were officially announced at a press conference at the Book World Prague – the book fair in the Czech capital. Authors from the genres of fiction, poetry, comics, children’s and young adult literature, and non-fiction, as well as theatre authors, will be represented.

Please find here the list of all the authors who will be attending Frankfurter Buchmesse as part of the Czech delegation: https://literaturtest.de/newsletter/pdf/Autorenliste_FBM26_Englisch.pdf(opens in a new window)

The authors were selected by the Czech Guest of Honour project’s “Programming Committee”, which consisted of 23 members, comprising literary scholars and translators as well as experts from the book industry, cultural institutions and cultural management. The main criterion for selection was that the authors’ works have been translated into German and published by a German, Austrian or Swiss publisher between 2024 and 2026. Further criteria were, for example, translations into other major world languages or the author being awarded a significant literary prize – also between 2024 and 2026.

“The current selection is the result of lengthy and careful discussions within the ‘Programming Committee’. It was not an easy decision to reach” explains committee member Jan M. Heller, literary critic, editor-in-chief of the magazine Tvar and director of AMU publishing house.

At the book fair, the Czech authors will talk about their works and engage with the audience on the stages of the Guest of Honour pavilion. Another venue where Czech literature will be represented at the fair will be the Czech Republic’s new collective stand, where business meetings for selling rights will take place. More than 40 Czech publishers will be presenting their books there.
