On February 24, at the "Books at Berlinale" pitching event, a co-operation with Frankfurter Buchmesse, the Berlinale Co-Production Market will once again present twelve exceptional works of literature that are particularly well-suited to adaptation for the screen. "Books at Berlinale", which has been placing a spotlight on recent publications and bestsellers every year since 2006, gives film producers the opportunity to come into contact with renowned and internationally active publishers and literary agents who hold the film rights to the books in question.

Under the motto “Signals of Hope: New Perspectives for a Stronger Future”, Frankfurter Buchmesse’s new all-digital Frankfurt Conference kicks off today, marking the start to the Special Edition book fair week.

Two of the ten books that were presented to an audience of film producers at the first ever digital "Books at Berlinale" this year came from Canada, the Guest of Honour at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2021. Nina Bunjevac's graphic novel "Fatherland" depicts her family's history between Canada and Yugoslavia, her father's biography and her own search for him. We talked to her about the prospect of her book being adapted as a movie.

The Global 50 CEO Talk 2022, held in partnership with Frankfurter Buchmesse on Wednesday, 19 October 2022, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Frankfurt Studio (Hall 4.0, Room Europe), will explore the book business beyond traditional publishers.

In 2020, the THE ARTS+ program features many exciting speakers and topics. In addition, the Frankfurter Buchmesse Film Awards Jury has just announced the shortlist for 2020.

Frankfurter Buchmesse (14-18 October 2020) will take place this year: with an extensive digital programme for publishing professionals, exciting online events at BOOKFEST digital for an international readership, as well as live events in Frankfurt on the ARD Book Fair Stage in the Festhalle and some 80 events as part of BOOKFEST city. The book fair’s traditional on-site exhibition is being cancelled this year due to the corona pandemic, since current travel restrictions would prevent numerous country stands from being realised as planned. In addition, the quarantine requirements that will be enforced on 1 October 2020 make it virtually impossible for European exhibitors and trade visitors to participate.

Like no other happening in the publishing industry, Frankfurter Buchmesse leads the way in activating global networks, opening up future markets and putting both sector-specific and socio-political issues on the agenda. That will be truer than ever in 2020, the year of corona, as demonstrated by the fair’s thousands of digital exhibitors from approximately 85 countries (as of 20 September 2020). TAlong with this, the book fair will offer ca. 70 hours of professional programme with acclaimed guests, including James Daunt, Ananth Padmanabhan and Jenny Fry and will be a celebration of literature online and in Frankfurt with Karin Slaughter, Elizabeth Gilbert, Irvine Welsh and many more. In its fifth year this event from May 31 - June 1, focusses on transmedia and cross-cultural storytelling.

Innovation Stage: The new stage in Hall 4.0 is all about trends and market developments in the fields of academic, education and publishing services. On Saturday and Sunday, the stage will become the centre of the Campus Weekend.

Booksellers from all over the world can now apply to participate in the new digital programme Frankfurt International Booksellers offered by Frankfurter Buchmesse (14–18 October 2020). Organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse with financial support from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, the programme is designed for booksellers who stock foreign-language titles in their bookshops. Applications being accepted until 28 September 2020.
