Exhibitors and trade visitors can register now for the 5K fun race

This year marks the second “Frankfurter Buchmesse Kickoff Run”, a 5K fun run and meetup opportunity for exhibitors and trade visitors of Frankfurter Buchmesse (10-14 October 2018). The run will take place on Sunday, 7 October 2018, at 5 p.m., starting at the clubhouse of the “Frankfurter Ruderverein von 1865” (Alte Brücke, Frankfurt). The race along the river Main is organised by the Frankfurt Book Fair New York in conjunction with Frankfurter Buchmesse and mediacampus frankfurt. Registration via e-mail to Riky Stock, Frankfurt Book Fair New York, is required, as space is limited: rikystock@book-fair.com.

The run benefits Room to Read, a non-profit organisation promoting children’s literacy and girls’ education programmes. No registration fee applies for participating in the Kickoff Run, but runners can give a personal donation to Room to Read. A donation of 10 USD brings ten new books to a classroom, and a donation of 25 USD fills up an entire bookshelf (http://www.roomtoread.org/).

The Kickoff Run was launched in 2017. Organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse’s New York office, last year's race brought together runners from all parts of the publishing industry for an informal meetup before the official book fair opening. The idea of the fun run was born in a conversation between Cecilia de la Campa of Writers House and Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse.

Cecilia de la Campa, Executive Director Global Licensing and Domestic Partnerships at Writers House, says about the Kickoff Run: “The best part was meeting so many new publishing contacts from around the world. We established a quick camaraderie, cheering each other on. The slightly sore muscles and knowing smiles from other participants throughout the rest of the book fair week were perfect reminders of a great time had by all!”

Sarah Perillo, Foreign Rights Manager at Curtis Brown, says: “I had a blast at the Frankfurt Kickoff Run last year! It was a great opportunity to see new and old publishing friends before the fair. I’m really looking forward to this year’s race. Some fresh air and exercise is always welcome after an eight-hour flight from New York!”
