Irina Scherbakowa, born in Moscow in 1949, is a historian, journalist and translator. She was a member of the Moscow-based organisation Memorial, which organises educational programmes that examine repression during the Soviet era and works to protect human rights in Russia. She now lives in Tel Aviv and Weimar. Her book Die Hände meines Vaters. Eine russische Familiengeschichte (The Hands of My Father. A Russian Family History) was published by Droemer in 2019.
