The Illustrator/Comic Artist: Contemporary comics: where image and text engage in dialogue

Comics have experienced a major boom in recent years in Germany (and around the world). When images and text are combined, it opens up many more possibilities for conveying all kinds of content. More and more adult readers are discovering a taste for reading comics, meaning that this genre is enjoying increasing recognition. Examples in Germany include awards won in 2024 by the illustrator Anke Feuchtenberger, who was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize, while this year the illustrator Ulli Lust has received the German Non-Fiction Prize (Deutscher Sachbuchpreis), which has been awarded to a comic artist for the first time.
