Ana Marwan was born in 1980 in Murska Sobota, and after studying comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana she moved to Vienna in 2005, where she began her literary career in 2008, receiving the Schreiben zwischen den Kulturen literary prize. After completing Romance Studies at the University of Vienna and working at various odd jobs, she has focused for the past six years exclusively on writing longer and shorter prose texts in German and Slovenian. Her debut novel Der Kreis des Weberknechts was published in 2019 by the Austrian publishing house Otto Müller Verlag. Her second novel, Zabubljena, which was created in Slovenian, was published by the Beletrina publishing house in 2021 and received the Kritiško sito award. In recent years, she has published short stories in anthologies and literary magazines. In 2022, she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize at the 46th Days of German Language Literature for her short story Wechselkröte. She currently lives in a village between Vienna and Bratislava.
